GYO simply means “fish.”
GYO was born on the coast of South Louisiana on a boat, a porch, in a kitchen, with a family and most of all with passion! The combination of fisherman and artist translates beautifully to create what we call GYO. The name is derived from the Japanese art form of Gyotaku, the technique used to create the masterpieces that are the cornerstone of all GYO products.
In 19th century Japan the art form of Gyotaku originated as a way to record the size and species of a days catch. Japanese fishing boats were equipped with rice paper and ink to preserve most accurately the size of the fish. As fishermen all know, fish stories grow with each retelling, so this recording kept the account accurate. Gyotaku was also widely used before photography for the same reason, to most accurately preserve a trophy fish.
GYO offers fisherman the best of the past and present, a preservation of your catch in the form of fine art. You literally “capture your catch!”
Artist Leslie Charleville, takes your catch and creates a work of both art and an alternative to taxidermy. Your original fish preserved on rice paper with ink as a piece of one of a kind art to admire forever. It is a living fish story. As you recount your catch, your original fish is beautifully represented to authenticate this memory.
At GYO, can own a piece of art and wear it as well. Unlike any other brand on the market, GYO offers an authentic representation of a fish which makes it unique and wildly popular amongst anybody who is introduced to the brand.
Capture your catch and get hooked on GYO!
